Abstract neon nails

Not the most unique nail art today but I really needed a neon nail art :D

I decided to spice it up a bit by using different techniques.

Step-by-step:

1) After the basecoat apply a white polish on all the nails.

Let it dry completely; adding a topcoat can speed up the drying time.

2) Randomly place striping tape on the nails and try to create a modern abstract design.

3) Cut a (make-up) sponge into small pieces.

4) Get your neon polishes and start to randomly sponge the colors on the nails. 

Use a small piece of sponge per color.

5) Remove striping tape.

6) Add topcoat

Polishes used:
* Models Own - Luis Lemon
* Models Own - Bubblegum
* Models Own - Toxic Apple
* Orly Baked - Ablaze
* Orly Baked - Hot Tropics
* Bourjois - Blue no blues

Day 306) Colorful striping tape mani

I've seen some people in my circles buying striping tape.
I hate to use striping tape as part of the nail art itself...even with topcoat I can't seem to let it stay in place for more than a few hours.
But to use it as a tool for creating a beautiful nail art...it's just perfect!
Time to show you what you can do with the goodie.

Step 1) I started with a sponged base of metallics

Polishes used:
- Sephora Tomorrow, Detox! 72
- Etos Metallic dark blue
- Makemeup DCC XL Digital Color Cream F29
- Maybelline Forever Strong Pro 820 Winner takes it all!
- Maybelline Express Finish 250 Deep Violet

Step 2) Then I applied the striping tape. Actually with the beautiful base colors it doesn't really matter how you apply it. Any design is gorgeous IMAO.


Step 3) Apply black nail polish over the entire nail, including your striping tape.

Step 4) Remove striping tape and apply top coat

 

Day 209) Rainbow striping tape mani

For today a striping tape nail art.

 

Material:

-Basecoat

-White nail polish

-Striping tape

-(Tape)

-Sponge

-Rainbow colors nail polish

-Topcoat

 

Step 1:

Start with a basecoat and let it dry.

Apply the white nail polish; make sure to have good coverage.

Finish it with a topcoat and let it dry.

 

Step 2:

Use the striping horizontal and vertical to make little squares (if anyone can tell me what this kind of pattern is called in English, I would be very pleased).

Apply some regular tape around the cuticles: This way you can secure the striping tapeand you'll have less mess in the next step.

 

Step 3:

Use the sponge and your rainbow colors to sponge the colors on your taped nail.

Diagonal sponging gives a nice effect.

 

Step 4:

Remove the tape and striping tape.

Finish the nail art with a topcoat and make sure your cuticles are clean.

 

Done!

 

 



Day 203) Classy rock nails

I've been asked to do a nail art with spikes.
It's not really my thing, but I like to answer to any requests.
I've searched the Internet for some cheap spikes, but in the Netherlands I could only find one site providing them and they were too expensive in my opinion.
I decided that (until they become cheaper) I would use a cheaper version; the stud version of spikes.
They are a little bigger than the Nail version, but they just have to do.

Day 161) Nail art modern chic

Today it is time for a more graceful nail art.

Here is my step-by-step:

Step 1:
After the basecoat apply a white nail polish.

Step 2:
Divide your nails diagonal in half with a light pink polish; from top right corner to bottom left corner. You can do this freehand or use tape for it. Apply a topcoat to shorten drying time.

Step 3:
Use striping tape to divide the light pink half into a checkered pattern.

Step 4:
Apply a darker pink nail polish on top of the checkered pattern.

Step 5:
Remove the striping tape.

Step 6:
Apply a silver glitter nail polish, leaving the white part in a kind of V-shape.
Then use a triangular rhinestone to accentuate this V-shape. I used my topcoat as glue for the rhinestones.

Day 156) Nail art blue stripes (abstract)

Today's nail art is a custom one.
It's for a drug store called Etos.
Besides the make-up from the more commercial brands (Like L' Oréal, Bourjois, Rimmel, Max Factor), they also sell their house brand.
Etos also has a company slogan which is: Etos blue fits you!
And of course their colour is blue.

For today's nail art I used 4 nail polishes from their house brand and made a design which looks a little like a barcode.

Material:

- Dark blue nail polish (metallic); Etos Quick dry nail polish
- Jeans blue nail polish; Etos Long lasting nail polish
- Light blue nail polish; Etos Quick dry nail polish
- Blue glitter topcoat; Etos TOP coat
- White nail polish; Only you
- Striper brush
- Striping tape
- Scissors
- (Regular tape)

Step 1:
After the basecoat paint your nails white.

Step 2:
Use the regular tape or striping tape to tape off the sides of your nails. Leaving a stripe in the middle.

Step 3:
Use the striping tape to divide the middle (vertical) stripe into (horizontal) stripes. Vary the space between the striping tape.

Step 4:
Use the striper brush to colour in the stripes. For the bigger spaces I used the dark blue, for the middle I used the jeans colour and foor the smallest I used the light blue.

Step 5:
Remove the (striping) tape

Step 6:
On the ring finger I did an accent using the glitter topcoat. I kept the middle stripe smaller on this nail. Then I used the striping tape again, but to leave space on the sides of the nail. On the sides I applied the glitter topcoat

Step 7:
Apply topcoat. Done!

Applying the striping tape is the most time consuming. I would suggest to do this striping design only as an accent nail.

Day 152) Colorful tips

Today I have a nice step-by-step for you.

Step 1:
After the basecoat paint your nails in a white colour. Let it dry completely, a topcoat will speed up the process.

Essence floral Grunge nail polish (The Pearl) - 02 Lily Bloom

Step 2:
Take a striper brush and black nail polish and make a curved line (from right top down to the left where your natural tip starts).

Step 3:
Divide the tip by using striping tape.

Step 4:
I chose to do an ombre (light to dark) on the free spaces of the tip. I used different nail polishes for each stripe but of course you could just as well use a dark colour and white nail polish and mix these yourself to a kind of ombre (different shades of one colour).

Step 5:
Remove the striping tape.

Step 6:
Fix imperfections (I had to repaint my black line) and topcoat it.
Done!

For each tip I used a different colour (love colours!)

Have fun with it!

Day 126) Casuelle Neon nailpolish

Allereerst een opmerking voor al mijn Nederlandse viewers. Mijn Nederlandse blog kun je hier vinden.

We have a toy store in the Netherlands called Intertoys. Besides toys they sell some girls stuff.

This includes nailpolish (color, crackle, neon), striping tape, billions/beads/caviar, nail art pens etc.

Don't expect top quality but the prices are very nice!

Neon nailpolish is hard to get in the Netherlands. Just a few brands have this in their collection and it's expensive. The same goes for buying them online.

So, when I came along these neon nail polishes I've just had to try them.

The Casuelle neon nailpolish comes in 4 different shades:

>Neon yellow, neon coral, neon green and neon pink.

The brush is simple as what you can expect with low budget polishes.

N.B. Keep in mind that every light or bright colour needs more layers/coats to get that full opacity. I always recommend that you give your nails a white base before using any of these colors.

After my white base I applied these polishes with my own brush. They applied watery > even with the white base it looked like they were needing at least 2 coats. I hate this! I chose to apply it very thick and was hoping it was ever going to dry...

To my surprise this thick layer dried even faster than any other nail polish I own. Conclusion: they have to be applied very thick!

The neon colors are in fact real neon colors (I regret that this doesn't show on the pictures that well).

I do think the coral and pink look too much alike. There is just a slightly difference when they are apllied on the nails. 

I'm not a huge neon fan:

The weather in The Netherlands isn't that sunny. And neon for me means: sunny, palm trees, beaches, suntanned skin (all very hard to find here). So perfect for the summer holidays when we go abroad.

My overall opinion is that you have some great neon colors for an even greater price!

My main goal was to swatch these nail polishes so I added some simple nail art with black striping tape.

Day 118) Laser Lace

For today I have some Laser lace designs I want to show you.
I already did a laser strands nail art on a previous blogpost.
I liked the overall look but the strands weren't easy to use.
The laser lace looks like laser strands but then pressed together as a kind of lace.

The white material that you see on the picture is a felt-like paper. It's for protection of the lace and also makes it somehow easier to cut the lace in the desired design.

Usage:

1. Cut out a piece of laser lace
2. Remove the felt-like paper (if you haven't done this already)
3. Apply some clear coat on the nail
4. Stick the piece of laser lace on the nail
5. Finish it with topcoat

For this nail art I want to swatch my new nail polish. So here it is:

This is Essence LE Floral Grunge nail polish The pearl - Nr. 02 Lily Bloom
I love this colour! It's white with a little sparkle in it which gives it the pearly look.
It is so classy and perfect for weddingnails. Only two thin layers of nail polish is enough.

Because it is so simple to use I only have a few pictures:

Cut the laser lace in the right shape and remove the felt-like paper

Put on a clear coat and use this as a glue for the laser lace.
Stick the laser lace on the nail and cut off the excess.
Finish with topcoat.
Done!

It's all the same when you are using the laser lace only as a detail on the nail. The only difference is the shape and size you cut:

And this is the overall look:

I really love this look and so does my husband. It's lovely and sweet and very classy for a diner, a party or a wedding.
It's so much easier to use than the laser strands. Cut and stick that's all!

To accent the laser lace I used some other material as well;
-Round rhinestone and rectangular rhinestones on the ring finger
-Striping tape on the middle finger
-Crushed shell on the index finger
-Diamond-shaped flitter on the thumb
