Holo watercolor nails

 

For more than 30 years Herôme has been the leader in hand- and nail care.

In the Netherlands that is.

The quality of their products is very good and they are medium priced.

Herôme: "Our approach is solid research and live up to what our products promise."

They also have a wide range of gorgeous nail polish colors.

And as I'm writing this I'm asking myself why I don't have more by this brand???

 

When I was shop hopping through local stores I found a store selling some Herôme mini nail lacquers (4ml).

The lightening in that store was horrible: I had trouble seeing which color I was holding.

There were some mini bottles which looked like plain silver lacquers but when holding one really close it looked like it had some shattered holo in it.

Well...you should know by now that I'm crazy for holo's so I grabbed two (just in case it turned out to be holo), one for me and one for my "growing give away".

 

And today I'm going to show you this mini lacquer by Herôme.

Now, I wasn't really feeling it to make a nail art today.

We finally have some Summer weather again and I just wanted to enjoy it with my hubby and kids.

I chose for something really simple and done before (but not with holo).

I got this idea from Glitter.Gloss.Garbage

I used the OPI Sheer Tints to make the watercolor effect.

Using the regular polish brushes and randomly placing the colors on the nails.

 

 

The picture doesn't even do it justice!

I want to have this nail art on for...like forever :D

 

Happy Mother's Day with flowers

Today is Mother's Day and well...it's always a busy day.

With my mother, my hubby's mother and being a mother myself it is not really the most relaxed day.

However I've been spoiled a lot :D

 

There were drawings, poems, chocolate, kisses, a DIY necklace and of course my UV and nail drying lamp!!

 

I recently had a surprise Mother's Day give away on Facebook for my Dutch followers.

I asked them to share a picture of something their mother loves.

Among the shares was a picture of scarves/mini shawls which the mother was obsessed about.

This is what I came up with:

 

 

 

I bought a nice Summer scarf and made a matching nail art bracelet.

 

Now, for my own mother...

She loves flowers and actually is my biggest fan.

From day 1 she's been sharing all my pictures on her personal Facebook page and loves when I do her nails.

Nail art is temporary and I decided that she should have something more lasting as well.

 

 

I've made a nail art locket which can be worn on both sides.

Front side are flowers.

 

Back side is purple holographic with the text: Mom. I love you!

 

 

And I actually found some time to do my own nails as well :D

 

I've started with a white base: Only You White French

Then I took a detail brush (0000) and black acrylic paint to make the flowers.

I've done the coloring with the same brush and the fabulous OPI Sheer Tints.

And decided to finish the design with a matte topcoat: China Glaze Matte Magic.

Northern lights nail art with OPI Sheer Tints

The next rainbowy nail art with the OPI Sheer Tints is inspired by Northern lights.

I have never had the possibility to witness it in real life but as from pictures, paintings and art I have to believe it's beautiful.

I found it very hard to translate this beauty into a nail art but I tried my best.

 

After the basecoat I applied two coats of Maybelline 650 Midnight Blue:

 

 

Then I gave two nails Picture Polish Gravity and two nails Picture Polish Aurora.

This picture doesn't do the polish any justice. The silver sparkles that you see are actually holographic but it wasn't sunny here :(

I then took a detail brush and white acrylic paint to set out the Northern lights on the nails:

 

 

After some drying time I randomly placed the OPI Sheer Tints:

 

 

If I had to do this nail art again I would have made it more subtle taking less space of the nails but I'm pretty happy with this first go :D

 

Waterfall nails with OPI Sheer Tints

Today I have two lovely mani's using the OPI Sheer Tints for a rainbow effect.

First up is a rainbow waterfall nail art.

 

After the basecoat I applied two coats of KOH Colours! 14:

 

 

After this I applied one coat of Picture Polish Aurora and one coat of Picture Polish Gravity...just to make it extra colorful and sparkly.

 

I then took a striper brush and white acrylic paint to make the waterfall.

 

After a bit of drying I used the OPI Sheer Tints to make the Rainbow effect.

Gradient and rose nail art with OPI Sheer Tints

I wouldn't be myself if I didn't try to make new looks with these beauties.

 

I started with a white base on all the nails:

Only You White French

Then I used the sponging technique for the gradient.

I sponged one layer of the 4 colors Sheer Tints and actually was pretty satisfied with the outcome;

a sweet pastel gradient with a minimum amount of bubbles.

But of course one of my 4 kiddies needed my help with something and I ruined my index :(

I didn't want to go through the whole process of cleaning, applying basecoat, painting it white, waiting for it to dry and making the gradient again.

So I decided trying to correct the ruined part with some more layers.

It worked...but of course the colors build up too and therefore the other nails had to get some more layers as well. 

Like I mentioned in my review. Layering these polishes will cause bubbles.

I tried to flatten some of them out with a topcoat but this worked only to a certain point.

But only when you take a close look you are able to see them.

 

For the accent I chose to randomly place the colors on the nail.

I added a topcoat to seal this part.

That way I could use the black acrylic paint and was free to start over when I wasn't satisfied.

I started with other flowers but ended up with the roses.

 

 

Review and nail art with OPI Sheer Tints

OPI Sheer Tints (Spring 2014)

My OPI Sheer Tints mini pack has finally arrived!

I've been waiting for these for so long.

 

 

Colors

There are 4 colors:

- I can teal you like me which is a blue

- I'm never amberrassed which looks like an amber color in the bottle but is more like a yellow

- Be magentale with me which I think is true to it's name. In the bottle it looks like a red but is magenta (pinkish)

- Don't violet me down which is a violet/purple.

 

I've been reading other experiences but for me "Don't violet me down" was the most thick and also the strongest and darkest in color. Best to start with when making a watercolor nail art.

I also found that when making a watercolor nail art the purple and pink look a lot alike. Therefore better to use them both less than the other two colors.

Missing the green? Of course mixing/layering blue and yellow will make green.

But be careful with mixing colors because just as with paint if you mix too many colors you will get an ugly brownish color.

Formula and application

These polishes look like sheer jelly polishes.

They remind me a bit of Indian ink that you use with crown pens/pin pens.

However these polishes are more viscous/syrupy/sticky and thicker than Indian ink.

They are workable for now but I do expect them to dry out pretty quick.

When open to air for too long there is a chance of string pulling.

The polishes are hard to apply evenly but will flatten when using a topcoat.

I experienced that layering them will cost bubbles. Something I don't have the answer for to prevent.

The best comparison I can make for these polishes is Seche Vite fast drying topcoat.

The last from the bottle to be even more precise.

Like Seche Vite the polishes are fast drying.

When painted on a zipper bag you can pull the same kind of plastic-like film from it.

Recognize the thickness and bubble making when trying to finish your Seche Vite bottle?

Well, these polishes are just like that!

I tried to use my detail brush and the polishes to make a detailed nail art but the polishes are too thick to make really fine lines.

Now, it looks like there are only down sides for these polishes.

This isn't true!

As long as you see them more as a topcoat (which is what OPI intended).

There are plenty of possibilities to use these.

Well, and the sweet pastel colors are of course perfect for Spring!

Ideas for use

- On their own. They will never get opaque enough to not have any see through. Perfect for a stained glass look.

- As a topcoat. Change any of your existing colors into a complete new color

- Tie dye. Ombres and gradients by using more or less layers.

- Watercolor nail art. Randomly place the Sheer Tints over a white base.

- Sandwich nail art. Place any polish, glitter, stamps between two layers of Sheer Tints

And many more...

I will try to show you as many possibilities as I can in the next days/weeks.
