Abstract neon nails

Not the most unique nail art today but I really needed a neon nail art :D
I decided to spice it up a bit by using different techniques.

Step-by-step:
1) After the basecoat apply a white polish on all the nails.
Let it dry completely; adding a topcoat can speed up the drying time.
2) Randomly place striping tape on the nails and try to create a modern abstract design.
3) Cut a (make-up) sponge into small pieces.
4) Get your neon polishes and start to randomly sponge the colors on the nails.
Use a small piece of sponge per color.
5) Remove striping tape.
6) Add topcoat

Polishes used:
* Models Own - Luis Lemon
* Models Own - Bubblegum
* Models Own - Toxic Apple
* Orly Baked - Ablaze
* Orly Baked - Hot Tropics
* Bourjois - Blue no blues

Day 326) Matte abstract nails

Party time tonight!
I decided to make something simple and abstract because...well, I'm a woman and I need the rest of the day for making myself pretty ;D

I finished the look with a matte topcoat.
And, if you change the purple with gold this would be a great design for the Holidays.

Polishes used:
- Etos 124 (no name, teal)
- China Glaze 1252 Just be-claws
- Essence Beauty Beats 01 Baby, baby, ooh!
- China Glaze Matte Magic

Day 275) Nail art abstract

I recently saw a swatch of a polish with holo glitter and just needed to have it (for Christmas of course ;D).
I swatched it for you and here it is:

Kleancolor Nail Lacquer 137 Holo Yellow

The nail lacquer above can be described as a goldish yellow with holo glitter.
Holo glitter (which can't be compared to complete holo's) gives a more subtile holo effect.
This polish needs light! Otherwise it wil just be a plain dark yellow/goldish look.

The polish covers in 1 coat but there will still be a difference between tip and the rest of the nail.
Above is 3 coats.
Drying time is very slow. And I'm always in a hurry so that's no plus.
If I have to apply more coats I want to apply them as soon as possible after one another.
The complete look also has to dry fast because with 4 kids it's only a few minutes and there will be the first bump. They need to be kid proof as I like to call it ;D
This one isn't.

But for 4$ I'm happy with it.
Great polish for holidays and summer!

For the Nail art I just wanted to use some other sparkly nail polishes :D
I ended up with an abstract design

Polishes used:
- Kleancolor Nail Lacquer 137 Holo Yellow
- Color Club 959 Sparkle and soar
- OPI Coutere de Minnie Cover Magazine Mouse

Day 269) Abstract nails (fall colors)

Each week we get advertisement leaflets.
They are not only interesting for finding bargains but also for finding inspiration.
The colors for today's nail art are inspired by a leaflet from a clothing store.
I looked at those fall colors together and just wanted to make an easy abstract nail art with it.

So, here it is:

After the basecoat I applied striping tape by making an "X"

I used the 4 colors from the leaflet to fill up each area.
Then I removed the striping tape and used a striper brush and brown polish to make the "X" again with polish.

Polishes used:
- Catrice Ultimate Nail Lacquer Limited Edition Eve in Bloom C01 Bloomynous (beige)
- Catrice Ultimate Nail Lacquer Limited Edition Eve in Bloom C02 Floralilac (plum)
- Etos Long Lasting Nailpolish 124 (teal)
- NYC 208 Pier 17 (cobalt blue)
- Rimmel London 60 seconds 550 Major Brown (dark brown)

Day 262) Abstract fall nail art

Today I have an abstract fall nail art simular to this nail art I did before.
You can also find the tutorial at this previous post.

Material for this nail art:
- Fall colors
- Striping tape
- Scissors
- Nail art brush

Start with applying one of your colors as a base.
Let it dry completely before applying the striping tape.
Use the nail art brush to give the stripes a different color.

Day 240) Abstract nails (pink, purple, white)

Have you been noticing that I like abstract nails...?
After doing some other nail arts I'm burning to do another abstract.

And here it is:

Day 234) Abstract black and pink nail art

Today I have a nail art resembling a drawing that I did as a kid.
In class, when I got bored I was always drawing.
I saved some old school diaries and I think I was ahead of my time because they just look like scrap books from nowadays.

Back to the nail art.
I have a picture tutorial.
Material:
- Black nail polish
- Pink nail polish
- Striper brush

Add topcoat and done!

Day 225) Nail art abstract blue

For today I have another step-by-step nail art.
The technique used I've shown before (you can find it here)
But today I wanted to see if it could also bring some other ways of use.

Step 1: Start with a white base

OPI - Alpine Snow

Step 2: Preparations for the nail art

1) Material:

- Seche Vite topcoat (or any other topcoat)
- Sealable plastic bag/zipper bag

2) Make some sort of swatches with the topcoat on the bag and let it dry:

3) Give the topcoat swatches different blue colors and let it dry:

Step 3: Making the nail art

1) Material:

- Scissors
- Tweezers

2) Carefully pull the topcoat with color from the bag. Hold it with the tweezers as you cut it in any desired design. I chose to cut some stripes, triangles, triangular shapes and random little shapes:

3) Apply topcoat on the white base and use this as glue for your shapes. To easily remove any excess apply another layer of topcoat as the shapes will blend in it. (The rest can be removed with remover.)

And this is the outcome:

The first three designs (from left to right) aren't that special I think.
This can also be done hand painted and for me it would take less time.
But if you aren't that steady yet, this could be the perfect solution.
The last design I really love. I can't even describe it but Í'll give it a try: broken glass, crushed ice, stars...It is different!

Day 175) Abstract circles and stripes

For today's nail art I used this image as inspiration:
I like how the circles stand out on their own but also take part in the complete look.
Time to translate this to my nails I think...
Here is my step-by-step:

Step 1: The circles

Material:
- Tape
- Perforator

Take a piece of tape and fold it in two (sticky sides onto each other)

Perforate the piece of tape.
Unfold the tape and there you have two perfect circle stencils (that is...if your perforator is still sharp enough to perforate through tape)

Stick your DIY circle stencils on the desired place on your nail.
Then paint some horizontal colorful stripes on them.
I chose to do this design as accent nails on my index and ring finger.
Remove the tape.

Step 2: Fill up the rest of your nail(s) with vertical colorful stripes (I used the same colors from the circles). Topcoat and done!

Day 164) Nail art black and white

I love black and white!
Our interior is almost completely in black and white (that's how much I love it ;-D).
Today's nail arts are in black and white and they almost completely cover the nails.
I have to say I'm more a fan of subtle designs, but these aren't bad either.
As inspiration I used black and white abstract art by various artists.

I prefer the one on the middle finger.
What's your favourite?

Day 156) Nail art blue stripes (abstract)

Today's nail art is a custom one.
It's for a drug store called Etos.
Besides the make-up from the more commercial brands (Like L' Oréal, Bourjois, Rimmel, Max Factor), they also sell their house brand.
Etos also has a company slogan which is: Etos blue fits you!
And of course their colour is blue.

For today's nail art I used 4 nail polishes from their house brand and made a design which looks a little like a barcode.

Material:

- Dark blue nail polish (metallic); Etos Quick dry nail polish
- Jeans blue nail polish; Etos Long lasting nail polish
- Light blue nail polish; Etos Quick dry nail polish
- Blue glitter topcoat; Etos TOP coat
- White nail polish; Only you
- Striper brush
- Striping tape
- Scissors
- (Regular tape)

Step 1:
After the basecoat paint your nails white.
Step 2:
Use the regular tape or striping tape to tape off the sides of your nails. Leaving a stripe in the middle.
Step 3:
Use the striping tape to divide the middle (vertical) stripe into (horizontal) stripes. Vary the space between the striping tape.
Step 4:
Use the striper brush to colour in the stripes. For the bigger spaces I used the dark blue, for the middle I used the jeans colour and foor the smallest I used the light blue.
Step 5:
Remove the (striping) tape
Step 6:
On the ring finger I did an accent using the glitter topcoat. I kept the middle stripe smaller on this nail. Then I used the striping tape again, but to leave space on the sides of the nail. On the sides I applied the glitter topcoat
Step 7:
Apply topcoat. Done!
Applying the striping tape is the most time consuming. I would suggest to do this striping design only as an accent nail.
How about it?
Does Etos blue fit you?!

Day 135) Abstract magnetic nails

I finally got the Pupa Magnetic nail art kit.
Yes, I know it's not new anymore and it has been reviewed many times before.
The reason why I didn't get it earlier is that I was wondering for a very long time if it is worth the money.
I've been using lowbudget magnetic kits and although they are not great, they are just fine for the few times that I use it. Future plans are to make my own magnets and I do want a good magnetic nail polish for this; this is where Pupa comes in.

First a picture:
These kits are available in many colors, but I got number 31 Magnetic Black (which is on the picture above).
The kit contains a magnetic nail polish en two magnets: one for horizontal stripes and one for diagonal stripes.
I'm not going to do an extensive review about it.
The magnetic nail polish is of high quality and is also great to use without any magnetic interference.
The magnets were another thing:
-The opening for the finger is too small. You can't get your finger in which gives you the feeling that you don't have overall control. But it isn't really a problem, it's just the feeling.
- First use I didn't get a design at all. Too far of the nail. Then I realized that there is a small ditch in the magnet on which you can let your nail rest. This is just the right distance between magnet and nail.
- When the distance to the nail is right the design appears in a few seconds

Of course I wanted to do a nice nail art with this kit and here is the step-by-step:

1) After the basecoat paint your nails in a white colour. Then apply a topcoat.
Let it dry for some time (in my case it 's been 3 hours, but you don't have to wait this long).

2) Apply tape on the sides of the nails leaving a free of tape part in the middle (picture 1). The ring finger is my accent nail on which I simply apllied some different shapes of tape randomly (picture 2).

3) For this step you need to work nail by nail.
Paint your nail with the magnetic nail polish and immediately use a magnet or magnet pen (I used both).
The magnetic nail polish is quick drying. When the polish is dry the magnetic parts can't move around anymore, so that's why you'll have to work fast. On the thumb for example I did some dots and half way the nail I had to apply another layer of polish on that half because it already was too dry!

> Paint your taped nail with the magnetic nail polish

> Make your design with a magnet or magnet pen.
On this picture: dots with Essence magnet pen (thumb)

> Swirl with Essence magnet pen (accent nail on ring finger)

4) Remove the tape and correct some imperfections
I used a topcoat and afterwards I regret doing this. It makes the magnetic designs less visible.
Maybe I did it too early or maybe you're not supposed to use any topcoat. If anyone knows, please let me know!

Thumb: Dots with Essence magnet pen
Index finger: Tiger print with Essence magnet pen
Middle finger: Diagonal stripes with Pupa magnet
Ring finger: Swirl with Essence magnet pen
Pinky: I did the horizontal stripes with the Pupa magnet but my topcoat completely ruined it. So, I applied some magnetic nail polish again and made some horizontal stripes with Essence magnet pen

This isn't my best nail art for sure, but I do think the overall look is okay.
What do you think?
