Swatches, review and wedding nails with Layla Mirror Effect Nail Polish 01 Metal Chrome

I can't remember when or where I first saw a swatch of this polish.
Layla Mirror Effect Nail Polish 01 Metal Chrome

But I do remember it awed me.
Never saw a metal nail polish before with this kind of finish.
It was streak-free and foil like.

When I ran into this polish whilst visiting Spain I knew I just had to have it.

Review

The polish comes with a Mirror Effect Base File (for free) which is a buffer file.
Before applying the polish you have to prepare your natural nails with this base file.
Which is of course very understandable because on a smooth and streak-free surface you will see each little nail irregularity (like bumps, ridges etc.).

After filing and washing my hands I applied a basecoat.
I used the same drying time for this as I always do but when I applied "Metal Chrome" I couldn't help but notice that the polish had some reaction with my basecoat.
This wasn't the first time...I noticed the same reaction with holo polishes too.
Trick is to wait much longer before applying or and this is what I did...
'don't apply a basecoat at all'.

Applying the polish is very simular to holo polishes.
You get the best result by taking some more polish on the brush painting the nails with 3 strokes and trying to avoid going over the same polished area.
This polish can get away with only 1 coat but if you do need to apply another coat wait till the first coat is completely dry as it tends to take some of the first coat when painting the second coat.

The polish doesn't apply smooth right away.
But the bottle also says: Wait 30" to obtain a mirror.
And after some time you will see the polish drying into a smooth mirror like surface.

I'm really happy and satisfied with this polish.
As I think other metallic lacquers sometimes have a more rock style look this one is in fact very classy and elegant.

Wedding nails

As inspiration for my nail art I've used some images that I found on Google and had a silver, white, metallic wedding theme.

And here are my wedding nails for this theme

Day 124) Elegant nail art

After the handpaintings, nail art material and bright colors it's time for some more modest and elegant nails I think.
This nail art is perfect for a elegant matter, a wedding or just because it reflects your personality.
And...everybody can do it!

Step-by-step:
1) First I've painted my nails in a pearly white colour

2) Where the tip of your nails starts is called the tipline.
Move the tipline to halfway your nail and paint everything underneath this line with a light pink pearly colour
I used a brush for this but you can also use tipline stencils for it.

3) Now get a silver glitter striper and accent your new 'tipline'

4) As a finishing touch I've added some rhinestones. Teardrop rhinestones. Not only does this make the design more elegant it also looks as if you've made a necklace on your nails. Place them in the middle with the sharp side touching your silver tipline

Done!

Good luck en see you tomorrow!

Day 118) Laser Lace

For today I have some Laser lace designs I want to show you.
I already did a laser strands nail art on a previous blogpost.
I liked the overall look but the strands weren't easy to use.
The laser lace looks like laser strands but then pressed together as a kind of lace.

The white material that you see on the picture is a felt-like paper. It's for protection of the lace and also makes it somehow easier to cut the lace in the desired design.

Usage:

  1. Cut out a piece of laser lace
  2. Remove the felt-like paper (if you haven't done this already)
  3. Apply some clear coat on the nail
  4. Stick the piece of laser lace on the nail
  5. Finish it with topcoat
For this nail art I want to swatch my new nail polish. So here it is:

This is Essence LE Floral Grunge nail polish The pearl - Nr. 02 Lily Bloom
I love this colour! It's white with a little sparkle in it which gives it the pearly look.
It is so classy and perfect for weddingnails. Only two thin layers of nail polish is enough.

Because it is so simple to use I only have a few pictures:

Cut the laser lace in the right shape and remove the felt-like paper

Put on a clear coat and use this as a glue for the laser lace.
Stick the laser lace on the nail and cut off the excess.
Finish with topcoat.
Done!

It's all the same when you are using the laser lace only as a detail on the nail. The only difference is the shape and size you cut:

Triangle

And this is the overall look:

I really love this look and so does my husband. It's lovely and sweet and very classy for a diner, a party or a wedding.
It's so much easier to use than the laser strands. Cut and stick that's all!

To accent the laser lace I used some other material as well;
-Round rhinestone and rectangular rhinestones on the ring finger
-Striping tape on the middle finger
-Crushed shell on the index finger
-Diamond-shaped flitter on the thumb
